Happy New Year

Happy New Year!
We were all so excited to spend the evening and usher in the new year with all of our friends.
All day long the kids eagerly anticipated the party we were to be attending. Darc and I spent time in the kitchen making and baking...getting in the spirit to celebrate...Looking forward to catching up with good friends and spending time with loved families.
The party was to begin at 7:30pm.
To make a long story short, Brooke began to get a tummy ache around 6pm that night...which quickly developed into and confirmed our fear that she had a stomach virus.
Darc and I said "What are the odds that one child is sick on Christmas Eve and the other on New Year's Eve?" We were both feeling disappointed and discouraged, but decided that Darcy would take Brayden and Berlyn to the party while I stayed home with sick Brookie. So, before they left for the party, we had our 6 year old photographer take a quick couple of photos of us.
All dressed up with nowhere to go :)
Brooke was utterly beside herself in disappointment. She had her flapper girl dress on all day and had planned on wearing it to the party. For days she had been asking us, "how many more minutes" or "how many more naps" until the party?
It breaks a mama's heart to see her girl so sick and sad. She kept saying, "Everyone is having so much fun" and "It's no fun being sick Mama!" I was glad that I was alone with her to shower her with love and attention...just what every sick child needs.
After 4 episodes of Hannah Montana, she finally conked out.
And a little while later, Darcy came home from the party with the other kids.
I felt thankful and blessed that our friends took good care of my family while they were away from me...taking care of the baby, helping Darcy out, etc. Thank you! I felt the love from afar and through the texts! ;)
And my little man had a blast! He came home and just wanted to snuggle. It wasn't long before he was out like a light too...Which left Darcy and I alone in a house full of sleeping babes to ring in the New Year together.
So we took advantage of some of our new iMac features and snapped a few self-photos while we waited for the ball to drop and counted down the moments to the New Year. The photos above and below are 2009...
and these two below celebrate the beginning of 2010.

In closing, if you have a few extra moments, soak in this devotional I read this morning...It'll be the best New Year's Resolution you make!

"We rejoice and delight in you." Song of Songs 1:4
(Charles Spurgeon writes:)
We rejoice and delight in You. We will not open the gates of the year to the dolorous notes of the lyre but to the sweet strains of the harp of joy and the high-sounding cymbals of gladness. "Come let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation." We, the called, faithful, and chosen, will drive away our griefs and set up our banners of confidence in the name of God. Let others lament over their troubles; we who have the sweetening tree to cast into Marah's bitter pool will joyfully magnify the Lord. Eternal Spirit, our effectual Comforter, we who are the temples in which You dwell will never cease from adoring and blessing the name of Jesus. We WILL, we are resolved about it, Jesus must have the crown of our heart's delight; we will not dishonor our Bridegroom by mourning in His presence. We are ordained to be the minstrels of the skies. Let's rehearse our everlasting anthem before we sing it in the halls of the new Jerusalem. We will REJOICE AND DELIGHT: two words with one sense, double bliss, blessedness upon blessedness. Need there be any limit to our rejoicing in the Lord even now? Don't people of grace find the Lord to be camphor and spikenard, calamus and cinnamon even now, and what better fragrance do they have in heaven itself? We will rejoice and delight IN YOU. That last word is the meat in the dish, the kernel of the nut, the soul of the text. What heavens are laid up in Jesus! What rivers of infinite bliss have their source and yes, every drop of their fullness in Him! Since, O sweet Lord Jesus, You are the present portion of Your people. Favor us this year with such a sense of Your preciousness that, from its first to its last day, we may rejoice and delight in You. Let January open with joy in the Lord and December close with gladness in Jesus.

I am resolved to rejoice and delight in Him this year, no matter what life throws at me.
This is my New Year's Resolution...
Moment by moment giving Him the crown of my heart's delight.
Happy New Year to you!

  5. amen. i have started reading spurgeon's morning and evening devotional online. what a perfect prayer for the new year...my heart longs for Jesus to be "The Crown of My Heart's Delight"...as you so beautifully wrote.

And so, so sorry your 2 big days were interrupted by illness. It is so hard to face the disappointment when a much anticipated day falls short of expectations...for big and little ones alike.

    happy new year schriebers!
